West Horsley In Bloom 2012

The West Horsley in Bloom Competition was started 8 years ago in 2003 when some Parish Councillors were discussing Guildford in Bloom. The idea that the Parish had it's own competition was suggested and that it might improve the village having a better chance in the Borough wide competition.

Initially it was for front gardens as they are what the Borough Judges would see, plus vegetable gardens with a mini competition for children - 'The Tallest Sunflower'.

Over the years it was decided to include back gardens so as to include all residents, some having too smaller gardens to enter with the restriction of 'front garden'. The vegetable garden has always been popular and this year the organising committee have changed the Junior competition to BUILD A SCARECROW  and POTATOES IN A POT.

Since 2007 there has been a specific 'Wild Life Garden' section, previoulsy wild life friendliness was taken into account when judging front and vegetable gardens.

Each year we have around 40 entries into this competition.
